and more. This will include hospitals like the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital and the Baba Saheb Ambedkar hospital.

“We will try to see how this process works till the middle of next year. If it works out, we will expand it to all Delhi government hospitals,” an official said.

The municipal bodies have been training hospital staff in manual and online registration of births and deaths, and on issuing certificates. They will supply printed copies of certificates to hospitals.

For the project, a member of the senior administrative staff at each of the two hospitals has been appointed as sub-registrar, births and deaths.

Dr Richa Dewan, medical superintendent of Lok Nayak hospital, said: “We have appointed a sub-registrar and data entry operator. The civic bodies will now train our staff, and supply us with stationery to print certificates.”

Dr Rajpal, medical superintendent of GTB hospital, said: “Three of our hospital staff members have been trained at the corporation’s Swami Dayanand hospital. The corporation will be supplying us birth-entry software, and a data entry operator to support our staff.”
