Govt ‘defers’ Mumbai investor meet, says it will be busy with budget
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was supposed to meet industrialists at the investors’ meet in the country’s financial capital to secure investments. Chief Minister has met several industrialists in Delhi last month.
The state government had decided that a similar meet will be held in Mumbai.
The business community has not shown much interest to invest in West Bengal because of the state government’s “hands-off” land policy as it doesn’t want to intervene in acquisition of land for setting up industries.
The state government has organised industry meet twice in West Bengal. Despite repeatedly stating that land is not a big problem in setting up industry in Bengal, the assurance has failed to cut ice among the investors.
Even the big industrialists skipped the second edition of “Bengal Leads”, an investor summit, that was held in Haldia last week. Sources said that the state government had hyped the Mumbai investment meet and after realising that it would receive lukewarm response, it decided to “defer” it.
“We want more time to prepare ourselves before holding the investment meet in Mumbai. The key ministers and officials will be busy in preparing budget and this is why we have deferred the meet,” a senior minister said.
