Girl attempts suicide, parents say was beaten in school
The girl’s family alleged that she was beaten up by her physical education teacher who accused her of theft. The teacher had also strip-searched the child, parents alleged.
Education Minister Kiran Walia said: “I have no information of this incident yet. But after I get the details, necessary strict action will be taken.”
Police said the teacher denied the allegations and claimed that her parents had approached the school after they found a chocolate and two letters in her bag. When asked about these, the girl said they belong to a classmate, who denied the claim, the teacher told police. The teacher hinted that this might have led to the child attempting suicide.
Police said they were questioning other staff and students of the school and also the neighbours.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) BS Jaiswal said: “As the allegation is serious, it is being inquired in depth by ACP (Badli) for further action.”
