GHCL adds 2.5 lakh mtpa capacity at Sutrapada plant
Globally the company’s soda ash capacity has increased to 11.5 lakh mtpa, including 3 lakh mtpa capacity of SC Bega Upsom SA in Romania, which GHCL acquired in December 2005. Informing that the Sanjay Dalmia-promoted GHCL registered a turnover of $111 million in the financial year 2006-07, Tej Malhotra, head, soda ash operations, GHCL Ltd, said, “GHCL currently manufactures 8.5 lakh tonne soda ash a year at its Sutrapada plant and recently 2.5 lakh tonne per year capacity expansion at the plant entailing Rs 300 crore investment has been concluded. We are planning to further raise capacity to 1.1 million tonne, which will be completed in another 24-30 months time.”
“We are actively evaluating proposals to enter into the Chinese market and the company will come out with something concrete in a couple of months,” he said, adding that the company was also on the lookout to forge some strategic partnerships in the US market.
