The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is all set to make inroads in the neighbouring town of Ghaziabad. The DMRC has prepared a detailed project report for the extension of the Shahdara line to Ghaziabad via Sahibabad.
In a major decision, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) board has decided to grant permission for the Metro rail link from Shahdara to the new bus stand in Ghaziabad. The board has, however, objected to the Metro project connecting Noida to Mehrauli via the Hapur bypass.
Some members objected on the payment to be made to the Ghaziabad municipal corporation for acquiring land to construct the road under the build-operate-transfer (BOT) scheme from Meerut T-point to the Hapur road bypass. A plan for expansion of Indirapuram and Madhuban was also accepted in the meeting.
However, there is a great deal of difference between preparing the DPRs and and their actual implementation. Talking to FE, DMRC planning and technical director CBK Rao said, "The Ghaziabad authorities have paid our fees for the the preparation of DPRs, but there’s a long way to go for construction of the rail tracks."
A couple of days ago, putting behind all the flip-flops by state government and after having overcome funding hiccups, the DMRC had tied up all the loose ends to extend the Metro to Noida. Hopefully, work on this will start within four months.
