In the wake of the long pending demand of the companies operating in the field of micro irrigation system (MIS) for hiking rates offered to them for implementing MIS schemes in Gujarat, the state-owned Gujarat Green Revolution Company (GGRC), a nodal agency for MIS implementation in the state, has increased the rates offered to various implementing companies. Promoted by the Gujarat State Fertilisers Corporation (GSFC), the Gujarat Agro Industries Corporation (GAIC) and the Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers (GNFC), GGRC has increased the rates by 8-9%. This was informed by RC Mathur, joint executive, GGRC. He added that the new rates have been fixed on the lines of rates offered by Andhra Pradesh to various designated companies for MIS implementation. It may be mentioned here that GGRC has notified around 16 companies for implementing various MIS schemes in the state, which also include Netafim of Israel and Jain Irrigation. All these companies had demanded hike in rates due to the higher prices of polymers. At one point of time, these companies had to face tough time due to the non-revision of rates by GGRC. “On one hand rates offered to different companies have been hiked, while, on the other GGRC plans to reduce the per hectare cost by 9-12% in order to reduce the likely burden on the state government due to an increase in the rates,” he added. While welcoming the move to hike rates, Amrit Patel, president, Irrigation Association of Gujarat, said, “This has come as a big relief to companies operating in the field of micro irrigation systems. It would also prove beneficial to the state government’s efforts to increase the reach of micro irrigation in the state.”
