



Chennai, March 24 : General Motors is working on launching its Chevrolet Optra with CNG engine. The vehicle is expected to be introduced in the market in the next 2-3 months. The parent company General Motors Corporation is also working on hybrid technology, said company officials.
Speaking at a press conference here during the launch of ‘Aveo’ in the city, Ankush Arora, vice president (marketing, sales and after sales) of the company said, "we do not have immediate plans to come out with hybrid engines but the parent company is working on it. We are also doing research work with the IIT for bio-diesel".
He said, the company is planning to enhance the network of sales points to 110 from 77 right now and also increase the number of service outlets from 84 to 110 by the end of this year.
Talking about ‘Chevrolet Aveo’, he said the vehicle is being rolled out in about 140 countries across the world including the European markets and the US under the ‘Chevrolet’ name plate. The new sedan would be available in both 1.4 and 1.6 engine options. The Aveo 1.4 E variant which will be available from August 2006 is priced at Rs 5.67 lakh, Aveo 1.4 is Rs 5.87 lakh, 1.4 LS is priced at Rs 6.28 lakh and Aveo 1.6 LT is Rs 6.98 lakh.
