Geelani alleges intrusion, cops say he’s not under house arrest

Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s family has accused the Delhi Police of intruding into his privacy, alleging that the ailing leader and his family had to stay awake the entire night.

“If they have to keep him under house arrest, let them do it. But why have they positioned themselves inside the bedroom. For the whole night, two policemen were inside his (Geelani’s) bedroom and he couldn’t sleep,” said Geelani’s son Naseem.

Naseem added that Geelani and his elder son Naeem were inside a small bedroom with two policemen. “My brother is a heart patient. He was not even allowed to get his medicine,” Naseem alleged. He said that his mother was locked inside a room with two women police personnel.

The Hurriyat hardliner, who stays in his daughter’s flat at Malviya Nagar here, is under house arrest since Saturday morning. “There were two women and four men from the special cell inside the house. Outside the house there were many others,” complained Naeem.

Naeem said that in the morning he was unwell and wanted a doctor to visit him. “We called up a hospital for a doctor but they said that no doctor was available. My sister went out and purchased medicines for me. She was accompanied by a special cell officer. I am fine now. One of our doctors visited us in the evening and advised my father to take rest,” he added.
