From Jan 1, only UIDAI no. to get you licence, RC
As per a move of the UT Administration, from January 1, one would need to attach the UIDAI number or at least the enrolment number along with other documents before applying for a licence or even a registration certificate (RC).
However, the move, which is aimed to bring in more convenience for the residents and also keep a check on any outsider applying for an RC in the city or for keeping tabs on multiple licences, is also expected to face initial hiccups.
While UT officials claim already about 74 per cent population of the city has enrolled for the UIDAI which is a significantly high percentage, the remaining population is yet to catch up with the UIDAI wave.
Significantly, the UT Administration had last year issued a notification stating that a UIDAI number will be accepted as the residence proof for all purposes in Chandigarh.
As of now, there is a list of over a dozen documents that one chooses from in order to give a residence proof which is mandatory to be attached with the application form for getting a licence or even an RC for vehicle.
