Four persons were killed and one injured in an accident on National Highway 24 near Masuri, early on Wednesday morning. Police said investigations have not revealed a clear cause for the accident.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 3:30 am on Wednesday. The daughter of Kailash Agrawal, Rinki (20) was injured and is recuperating at Rama Hospital.

“The family lived in Majhola in Pilibhit, where they owned a cloth shop. They had travelled to Delhi to take care of marriage arrangements for their son Manish, whose wedding was on December 25,” a senior police officer said.

Police said the car was smashed from the front, but there was no evidence of any other vehicle at the site. “The car was found more than 150 metres from the point of impact, which has led us to believe that the accident took place at high speed. Residents heard the crash and contacted the police, after which the five were rushed to hospital. However, four of the five persons were declared dead on arrival. Rinki, the sole survivor, was in the back seat,” a senior police officer said.
