Former home secretary R K Singh on Friday joined the BJP along with Sunil Shastri, son of former prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, former petroleum secretary R S Pandey and retired Railways official Dharam Singh in presence of BJP president Rajnath Singh at the party headquarters here.
Singh, who had attracted the ire of the BJP earlier this year for supporting Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s allegation of involvement of people associated with the RSS and its affiliates in terror activities, Friday sought to steer clear from that position.
The former home secretary claimed that he decided to join the BJP for its hardline nationalist positions on the issues of national security.
“I share BJP’s hardline orientation on issues of national security. The BJP and its other associates like the RSS never compromise on this. Other parties tend to compromise due to their vote banks,” R K Singh told reporters.
Welcoming the new entrants to the party, the BJP president said there would be many more people with good service records joining the party in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections next year.
Party sources said R K Singh and R S Pandey were being considered as potential Lok Sabha candidates in Bihar.
