Form panel to look into needs of disabled commuters: Court
The court was responding to a public interest litigation filed by NGO India Centre for Human Rights and Law. The petition demanded that steps should be taken towards ensuring that railway stations and platforms are “made more accessible” to the disabled. Chief Justice Mohit Shah directed that the 10-member committee should consist of four members from the NGO and six members from various departments of the Railways. The committee is expected to come up with recommendations regarding the expected cost and the material needed to build new facilities for handicapped commuters. The court has asked the committee to submit its findings in the form of an affidavit within two weeks.
