Fletcher to examine the bowling cupboard

In an attempt to give coach Duncan Fletcher a chance to take a good look at India’s best available bowling resources ahead of the Australian tour, the Board of Control for Cricket in India will hold a five-day camp comprising 18 bowlers at the National Cricket Academy, Bangalore, from January 26. Once the final ODI on the 27th is completed, the coach is expected to join the camp.

The BCCI is keen on preparing a decent pool of bowlers from which to choose from for the upcoming season, and alongside Fletcher and the bowling coach Joe Dawes, chairman of national selectors Sandeep Patil will also be present to gauge the talent.” The Indian board has asked 18 players to come for a five days camp. We want to prepare a pool of bowlers from what we’ve seen this season. The selectors and the Indian team support staff will also be present. As India plays non-stop cricket, our support staff hardly gets time to watch domestic bowlers in action. This will give them a fair idea about our bench strength,” a BCCI official said.

It has often been believed that the national coach doesn’t get an opportunity to appraise the many bowlers spanning the domestic expanse of the country, and hence this short camp will offer him a good chance to see for himself the talent that has come to the fore at the end of this Ranji season.
