Fix HSRP or lose licence, dealers told
In a notification, the department directed the dealers to ensure that all new vehicles were delivered only after the high security numberplates were fixed.
If the rules were broken, the registration authorities will initiate proceedings to suspend or cancel the trade certificate of dealers in accordance with appropriate provisions of law.
“Otherwise, penal action shall be initiated to suspend or cancel the registration of the dealer. It has been reported that dealers are delivering vehicles to owners without putting the HSRP. This is contrary to directions of the department,’’ an official said.
HSRP vendor Rosemerta Technology claimed that the files for installing numberplates were reaching them late.
“We still have a backlog of 40,000 numberplates. We get 2,000 to 2,200 people every day for the new numberplates. The impact of the notification is going to take a few days,” Rosemertas managing director U R Kapoor said.
The notification also applies to vehicles sold on and after April 30, 2010. Owners of such vehicles have been asked to get the HSRP fixed by October 31.
The Transport department said the HSRP in old vehicles shall be implemented in a phased manner. “For this, appropriate instructions and series-wise registration schedule shall be advertised in newspapers,” an official said.
