that we apply those sections. We are still investigating the matter,” he said.

It all started in 2007 when Madhukar Ghadge, a railway employee, decided to dig a well. “We belong to the Mang community. Our neighbours could not fathom that a Dalit could have their own well. When my father did not heed to their threats, 12 men from the village ganged up and murdered him on April 26, 2007,” Tushar said. But the case ended up in an acquittal and an appeal is pending before the Bombay High Court. “Vaibhav is a complainant in the case and also the sole witness,” Tushar said.

Currently, Vaibhav, who has suffered several injuries on his head, is recovering in a local hospital at Satara. “They [assailants] threw my brother and sister-in-law from a 300-ft-high cliff. While Vaibhav lost consciousness, his wife somehow managed to drag herself near him and then alerted us,” Tushar said.

He said it was a clear case of attempt to murder. “My brother has been in ICU since then. Under a Section for robbery, these men [assailants] will manage to get bail soon. We are concerned of the repercussions that our family will have to face,” Tushar said.

Five yrs after Dalit’s murder, his family attacked again

Strange! A dalit is killed for trying to improve his economic condition by digging well in his land. Police also allowed the culprit to go out and attack them for being eye witness. How the police, prosecutors, judicial officers allowed such criminals free and attack the family. These agencies become indirect collaborators by not trying these criminals against relevant Prevention of Atrocities Acts on flimsy grounds. Gore is congress MLA that explains why the culprits were fearless. What will our hugely empowered people like Ashish Nandy, Congress, BJP, RSS and local Parties like RPI will comment as to why these agencies did not ensure punishments to such culprits. Perhaps they are equally biased and believe MANU who had preached against economic prosperity of dalits. Now they nurture enemies of their majority brethren with varying degree of animosity. No solution except what Dr BR Ambedkar had said but none, including Gandhi, agreed.
