FDI in wholesale is best, beneficial to farmers and traders, says Sukhbir
Addressing the media after visiting a METRO Cash and Carry India wholesale distribution centre at Amritsar, which is scheduled to open on November 28, Sukhbir said: “NDA and all opposition parties have been demanding a vote under section 184 on this crucial issue impacting our economy but the UPA government wanted to rush through the decision while ignoring the Parliament.”
The deputy chief minister, accompanied by Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia, added that the Shiromani Akali Dal as well as NDA was a of the firm view that on the issue of FDI in retail, all stake holders, retailers, farmers, political parties and traders, should have been taken into loop by the UPA government.
He further said that the Shiromani Akali Dal had supported FDI in wholesale as it felt that it would be beneficial to the retailers, farmers and traders removing the middlemen from the cycle but in the case of FDI in retail there was a question mark as crores of retailers are dependent on their neighbourhood shops.
Meanwhile, responding to a query on whether he had ordered a review of security of all protectees
following the Chadda shootout incident in a New Delhi farm house, Sukhbir said that the concerned committee would soon meet and would retune the security according to the threat perception of each protectee.
Rubbishing reports of a coal shortage, the deputy chief minister said that Powercom was reviewing the situation on a day-to-day basis and he had already requested the Railway Minister to allocate more wagons for bringing coal from Jharkhand and Chattisgarh.
