Kanpur: Upset over not getting a job through campus recruitment, a post graduate IIT student allegedly committed suicide in Kanpur by hanging himself. G Suman, a second year M-tech student hailing from Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his hostel room this afternoon, said Sanjay Govind Panday, Director of IIT Kanpur.

Suman, who was pursuing electrical engineering, was upset after he failed to get a job offer during a recent campus recruitment by several multi-nationals, Panday said.

He would rarely meet anyone and would lock himself in his room. However, when he did not come to the mess for breakfast and lunch on Saturday, his friends went to his room which was locked from inside.

They saw Suman's body hanging from the fan, Panday said adding he was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Panday said Suman had confided to his friends a number of times his disappointment over not getting a job due to the economic recession. "Even after studying so much, we are not able to get a job," he would say to his friends.

A special committee of professors has been set up to probe the incident, Panday said. Suman's family has been informed and the body sent for a post mortem. Police are investigating the case.

It is really feel bad to receive such news as it is a common factor that even after spending a huge sum of amount, the students unable to get the expected jobs for which the recent economic problems also become a reason. Anyhow, whosoever may be they should understand that by hanging on a ceiling fan or some other way to die will not satisfy you or your family members. We should try to find out the way how to solve it or to overcome the weakness.

Ignorance personified like Dr. Ramesh pretend to know history just abusing Nehru family. The bafoon doesn't seem to be knowing that the IITs are Pandit Nehru's gift to the nation. The spectacular growth of IT secotor in the country has much to do with the visionary decisions of Pandit Nehru and Rajiv Gandhi. While abusing that family Ramesh should educate himself that India is not a natural state. It's an artificial nation that has been held together for much of last five decades by the presence of Congress in its nook and corner. And the party has remained united around the family.

What kind of education system we have, we spare most of our time and energy in getting into so called prestigious colleges and degrees, thinking our lives will be cherished with those degrees, unfortunately it doesn't even help you live your life till you get the degree, how is this going to help us live our life better later. First ask them to teach the values of life before they call it as prestigious degree.

the tendecy to commit suicide runs in families.in future a strong genetic correlation may be found. its unfortunate for the family of the individual but others should not lose sleep over it and start blaming the leaders/country etc. the suicidal tendencies should be noticed by family members and never taken lightly.one should never talk of committing suicide when facing problems in front of children and should never pressurise the students that all depends on their exams/interviews.this is becasue of the false ego of trying to be the best /get the best in everything.its rare to see a cricketer/footballer commiting suicide for not getting selected for national team.if u trace the few suicides among sportsmen it will be due to alcohol/drug abuse.there have been instances of fans commiting suicide on thier beloved heroes film bombing.persons wanting to commit suicide requires the flimsiest of excuses.there was a instance of suicide in favour of amarnath agitation.

this is sad state of affairs. first of all, his death made news because he was from iit. scores of other weak minded people commit suicide too without making it to the headlines. not to be sarcastic, but as a general commentary. we are not guaranteed a job, just because the time were boomng, whatever the reason of his suicide, i hope others learn that we cannot take anything for granted. we , in india have never had it this good. compared to our parents' generation, we are much better off, with job on offer even in recession. we might have to compromise and go on the lean path, and make a career path ourselves.

I fully agree with Dr Ramesh's. Nehru and indira contributed to our country's dismal performance since independence, they did not get the priorities right, failed to educate and provide with basic infrastructure like health, education, safe drinking water, roads, electricity, etc..... They maintained illetracy to their benefit, divided country on reional and caste basis to consolidate the vote bank. I feel very sad with Suman and feel the system has failed and has contribued to his unfortunate death.
