With Formula 1 fever gripping the country, the Traffic Police has made elaborate arrangements for the three-day event scheduled from October 28.
Arrangements have been made to deal with any kind of emergency situation.
For the next three days, security will be strengthened at Kalindi Kunj, DND Flyway, Nizamuddin and Ring Road, ITO to Ashram, Akshardham to Noida Sector 15.
Explaining it further, a senior traffic department official said, “These are our high priority areas. They are heavy volume corridors and hence need extra attention. It is a popular sport and people are very excited. Since it is going to draw a huge crowd, jams are bound to happen. But we are prepared to deal with it.” Extra traffic personnel have also been deployed. “We will use additional manpower to ensure smooth flow of traffic. We have decided to raise the manpower by 30 to 50 per cent,” he said.
In Noida, the Traffic police has planned to deploy 34 beat constables, 30 Sub-Inspectors, who will be placed on the main checkpost near Yamuna Expressway interchange. Only cars with stickers and entry pass will be allowed. Officials will also be stationed at DND, Akshardham, Pari Chowk, Film City, Maha Maya flyover service roads. “There will be no restrictions or diversions in movement of traffic. Just additional officials will be on duty for the next three days,” said a senior traffic official.
The police have also stepped up security to avoid any kind of mishap during the event. The area has been divided into five zones and each zone will come under one Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP). “Along with five ASP’s, there will be 423 Sub Inspectors, 1,293 constables, 23 head constables, 8 woman Sub-Inspectors, 25 Sub-Inspectors (Local Intelligence Unit), one NDRF team, 40 PCR’s, 134 traffic constables, 6 traffic head constables. We did not want to take any risk,” police said.
