Explain stance on action against cops: HC to state
The state government had already suspended two police officials — Thane superintendent of police (Rural) Ravindra Sengaonkar and senior inspector of Palghar police station Srikant Pingale — on November 27 last year following a report by Inspector General (Konkan Range) Sukhvinder Singh.
A division bench of justices P V Hardas and Abhay Thipsay on Tuesday gave the direction in response to a public interest litigation filed by former journalist Ketan Tirodkar, seeking directions from the court to take action against police officers who registered an FIR against the two girls and arrested them. Tirodkar said Singh had submitted a report in which he had termed the action “unjustified”.
The court has asked the state government to file an affidavit putting forward its stand by February 27.
