Excise raid on Maninder Singh aka Sunny Johar reveals huge stock discrepancy
The legal noose around Maninder Singh aka Sunny Johar, the controversial owner of the The Hub, a bar-cum-restaurant in Ghumar mandi of Ludhiana where a senior police official was assaulted late on Tuesday, seems to be tightening.
The excise raid at the restaurant has revealed a huge discrepancy in the physical stock and the one mentioned in the stock register. Though, it possesses a liquor license, it was found that The Hub had more than double the stock it is authorised to keep. Sources said a large quantity of imported liquor was also found and most of it had been procured without paying duty.
Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner (DETC) Kamalpreet Brar confirmed unearthing the hidden stock. “We found a hidden stock of liquor. The anomalies are huge,” he said.
The department will be registering a case under the Excise Act against the bar owners, Brar added.
It needs to be mentioned that the restaurant used to host late parties, which used to go on till the wee hours while as per rules, no eating joint in the city can operate past midnight.
Also, it has come to fore that the restaurant did not not have any parking facility. Interestingly, the municipal authorities have till date failed to take any action.
