Emergency landing for Malaysian Airlines plane
The flight, MH 173, landed safely at the airport around 3 pm and all 158 passengers on board, including the eight-member crew, were evacuated. The pilot is learnt to have noticed a technical malfunction in one of the engines of the aircraft and alerted the Air Traffic Control; full emergency conditions were initiated for landing the Boeing 737-800.
“The airline’s Delhi-Kuala Lumpur flight took off from here at 1.08 pm. After an hour of flying, the pilot noticed a technical problem in one of the engines and decided to return. All the procedures to be followed during an emergency landing were put in place. Five firetenders were called in and full emergency was declared. Ambulances were rushed to the runway,” an airport official said.
The aircraft was later taken to an isolated bay and all passengers were evacuated by the fire service personnel. “No one was injured. Technical checks are being conducted on the aircraft,” the official said.
