EIL engineer was helping CBI probe fake papers for two oil projects

A day after 28-year-old Shashank Yadav, who worked for Engineers India Limited, was found hanging in a washroom of the Noida stadium, police filed an FIR for murder saying there were injuries on his body, and “other aspects of investigation” too suggested murder.

The Indian Express has learnt that Shashank was assisting a CBI inquiry into an alleged fake certificate which was submitted to help a Turkish company bag two projects valued at over Rs 2,000 crore.

The murder FIR was registered after Shashank’s father Vinod Kumar Yadav complained to the police that his son had been receiving threats from retired EIL employees. “My son told me earlier that the company under the scanner had members who were ex-EIL officials... He had received threats over phone as well,” Yadav said in his complaint.

“Shashank was meeting CBI officials... constantly giving the CBI information. On March 13, he was to give the CBI a written statement. He had a bag with him at the time of the murder, and it seems some files in it were torn,” his father said.

Shashank was one of eight EIL employees helping the CBI probe the qualification of Fernas Construction India Pvt Ltd, a unit of Turkey’s Fernas Construction Company, on suspicion that it had submitted a fake job completion certificate from Qatar Petroleum.
