With the government opening up foreign direct investment (FDI) in business-to-consumer online market place in India, global online market place eBay will continue to operate through the e-commerce market place model in the country and provide a platform to small vendors to sell their products.
“We have always been in the e-commerce market place model and have no plans of changing that. eBay will never compete with small merchants. In fact, ebay offers an equal platform to merchants of all sizes - small, medium and large businesses to sell their products,” said Deepa Thomas, eCommerce evangelist at eBay India.
This assumes significance as the department of industrial policy and promotion (DIPP), which floated a discussion paper on allowing FDI in e-commerce, had raised concerns on the inventory based e-commerce as it competes directly with MSMEs.
