Yesterday, at the Annual SIAM convention in Delhi, after Philippe Divry of Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles (VECV) put forth his ideas on India’s commercial vehicle market, a guest identified himself as being from Maruti and suggested that VECV develop a jugaad vehicle, which rural Indians could use for carrying families, friends and goods. Divry didn’t get it, so Abhay Firodia of Force Motors stepped in and suggested: “Since you are from Maruti, why don’t you propose the same to Maruti management?” The questioning gentleman replied, “Maruti isn’t into that segment, so I suggest VECV grabs the chance before Maruti starts thinking about it.”
