East corporation may soon have its headquarters at Shahdara

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation will soon have an headquarters of its own. After working from Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) building for over a month since its inception, the corporation has identified a plot to built its civic office.

Sources revealed that the new civic head quarters will be constructed at a four-acre land in Central Business District (CBD), Shahdara. The proposal was discussed at the meeting of the East Municipal Commissioner with the Chief Secretary P K Tripathi on Wednesday. The issue of space constraints at the DSIIDC premises in Patparganj was taken up in the meeting .

“The plot at the CBD Shahdara is a prime location but is lying vacant now. It was decided that the place can be used to build a civic head office for the East corporation,” said an official. The ownership of the plot lies with the Delhi government. The proposal will now be put forth to the Urban Development Ministry to study its viability.

At present, the East Corporation has set up its office on three floors of the DSIIDC building. However, the administrative staff and councillors have been complaining about lack of space to accommodate all civic officials.

“The plot is close to the Karkardooma court and is at the heart of East Delhi. Once the East civic head office is set up here, a portion of the premises can be rented out to other authorities. The Civic Centre too has given a part of its office
