DU to get IT park, focus shifts to entrepreneurs: V-C

Starting July, students of Delhi University will have access to a software park at the Cluster Innovation Centre in North Campus.

An MoU was signed between DU and Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on Saturday.

According to STPI officials, there is a disconnect between developments in the industry and programmes in academic institutions.

“Keeping in mind the vision of 2020, we need to increase the synergy between academic institutions and the industry. The park will also offer internships to students,” Omkar Rai, Director General of STPI, said.

The facilities in the park will be available to all DU students. “The software park will help students develop IT-related knowledge. Innovation will take place through these parks,” DU Vice-Chancellor Dinesh Singh said.

With the four-year undergraduate programme set to be introduced from July, officials said the software park at CIC will be a boon for those who take this course. “The four-year undergraduate programme aims to create entrepreneurs and scientists. They will benefit from the software park,” Singh said.

The need for courses that encourage students to become job creators instead of job seekers was also stressed.

“All education programmes seem to focus on helping people get jobs. But we must have people who will create jobs. Ideas that encourage creation of jobs should be encouraged.
