Though India’s PC penetration is far from reaching saturation point, yet it’s fast being replaced by laptops, at least in the urban scenario. Laptops of all shapes, sizes, colours and weight are there for the taking. Leading brands are competing with each other for a larger chunk of the market. They are using all the colours in the rainbow to attract the attention of the buyer. Reduced weight and girth complimented with ‘high-end-desktop’ features and long battery life are becoming the call sign for a desirable laptop. Contrary to the general belief, laptop buyers are not dictated by the cost factor alone, rather they are game for the flaunt value of the gadget and don’t mind dishing out some extra dough to possess it.

Oblivious of this, Lenovo: the leader in personal computing technology, dared to introduce their ‘Ideapad Y510’ in the world market. You may not fall in love with ‘Lenovo Ideapad Y510’ at first sight, but once you notice the features packed in this machine, I am sure it will force a ‘WOW’ out of your lips. Inside, there throbs an Intel core-2 Duo processor, ‘T 5450’ at 1.6 GHz. Though not a powerhouse but with 1Gb of DDR-2 Ram (667 MHz), it will chug you through most of your applications, be it net-surfing, watching a DVD movie or tweaking a photograph or two. Add another GB of DDR2 and you can even indulge in video editing or multi-tasking with reasonable ease. For storage it has a 160GB (SATA) hard disk that comes preloaded with ‘Windows Vista Home Basic’ version as operating system. You will find the inbuilt slot-loading ‘DVD RW’ and ‘iSCSI’ slot along with a 6 in 1 multi-card reader slot as standard fitment.

Where Y510 lacks in looks it more than makes up in its display and audio quality. The wide screen measures 15.4 inches and Lenovo calls it frameless as the glass like coating over the LCD panel also conceals the panel frame. It looks great, but, it’s...
