The BJP's state unit today alleged that dogs were being hunted down in North Kerala by an extremist group as part of their training programme and lambasted the government for not taking the matter seriously.

"Government has not taken seriously increasing number of cases of dogs killed at night as part of a training programme by a militant outfit in some places in North Kerala. It is not the work of anti-social elements or an isolated incident " BJP State General Secretary K Surendran told reporters here.

Surendran alleged 40 dogs have been attacked with blades at various places in the last three months.

The state government's stand was that these incidents are isolated ones and there was no need for any probe, he charged.

He also demanded the Centre probe sources of funds distributed by IUML under the guise of relief following reports of counterfeit currency being pumped into the state.

Meanwhile, DGP K S Balasubramanian told reporters on the sidelines of a function that reports of killing of dogs is being investigated. "A comphrehensive probe is being carried out and details cannot be disclosed now," he said to a query.
