Display break-up of points for nursery admission, government tells schools

Director (Education) Amit Singla said although the department received some complaints regarding points awarded by some schools, the decision was not entirely down to complaints. “The idea is also to be aware of the criteria under which schools award points to applicants under the general category,” Singla said.

The notification reads, “In continuation of the office order of December 27, 2012, all unaided recognised schools are hereby directed to publicly display points secured by each applicant under each criterion as well as total points secured under the 100-point admission system adopted for nursery admission.”

The Director pointed out that some schools were awarding points for “vague and arbitrary” categories and that needed to be kept in check. “Some schools have been awarding points for categories such as noble work. There is no clear definition of noble work and there cannot be such an arbitrary criterion,” he said.

The notification has been sent to managements of all private unaided schools and education officers in each district. Founder of admissionsnursery.com, Sumit Vohra, said, “Last year, many schools did not display points for selected candidates.”

As many as 35 per cent seats are reserved under the RAA category in one school. It awards students points based on their parents’ profession. The school, on its website, says
