Discom plans infrastructure upgrade, outages likely in East, Central Delhi
Power supply in parts of East and Central Delhi will be affected over the next 15 days as distribution company BSES Yamuna Power Ltd will be carrying out maintenance and upgrade work on its infrastructure.
The company has taken up modernisation of its network — including a 66/11 KV grid sub-station in Daryaganj — that would require shutting down the transmission line, a BYPL official said.
The modernisation work will begin on Thursday and is likely to be completed by November 30. Officials said the supply of power will be affected mainly between 10 am and 5 pm.
A BSES spokesperson said arrangements have been made to supply power through an alternative source, but Daryaganj and adjoining areas will face sporadic power cuts of varying durations.
The official said the upgrade of the grid has been undertaken following an internal assessment, which revealed that power demand in Daryaganj and adjoining areas increases during summer.
“Among others things, this modernisation activity at BYPL Daryaganj Grid (situated in Subhash Market) will see the existing oil-filled circuit breakers and panels being replaced with next generation gas-filled SFS Vacuum Circuit Breakers (VCB) and panels. The modernisation activity will improve and ensure uninterrupted power supply during the critical summer months,” the spokesperson said.
Recently, the power discom also started work on a 33/11 KV indoor sub-station at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, keeping in mind the present and the future power requirements of ITO, DDU Marg and Daryaganj areas.
