Direct transfer scheme to cover 29 welfare plans: PC
The Aadhar-enabled system will be rolled out 51 districts across 16 states from January 1 next year.
Chidambaram said he expects Aadhar penetration to be 80 % in the 51 districts and it was a fair assumption that it would be close to 95 % by December 31.
At present, government operates about 42 schemes of which 29 would be covered by the cash transfer scheme. The scheme would be expanded to over more districts in April 2013 and the entire country by the end of the next year
"It is possible that one or two schemes may start a bit late. But, ultimately, we want to load all these schemes on the system. With the introduction of the direct cash transfer scheme, falsification and duplication will be practically eliminated and result in considerable savings to the exchequer,” said Chidambaram.
The schemes coming under the purview of the R3.2-lakh crore cash transfer scheme would include those of ministry of social justice and empowerment, human resource development, minority affairs, women and child development, health and family and labour and employment.
