Direct tax collections up 38.6% in first quarter

Belying fears of slowdown in economic growth affecting government revenue, direct tax collections have grown 38.6 per cent to Rs 57,373 crore in the first quarter this fiscal.

Corporate tax collections rose 32.65 per cent to Rs 34,566 crore for April-June period this fiscal, against Rs 26,058 crore during the corresponding period last fiscal, a Finance Ministry official said.

He said personal income tax collections witnessed a growth of 48.84 per cent and stood at Rs 22,782 crore during the quarter, against Rs 15,306 crore during same period in the previous fiscal.
