Diamonds worth Rs 22.5 lakh stolen from Surat factory

Gas cutter was used to break open the vault, police said

Rough and polished diamonds worth Rs 22.5 lakh have been stolen from a manufacturing unit in Kapodara area of the city. Police said the theft took place on Saturday night and the factory owner lodged a complaint in this regard on Sunday night.

In the complaint, factory owner Bhavesh Vaghasia stated that when he went to his factory on Sunday afternoon, he found the lock of the main door broken.

When he went in, the safe vault was also broken and diamonds worth Rs 22.5 lakh were missing.

The factory is located at Somnath Society in Kapodara area.

Kapodara police inspector M V Kikani said, “Gas cutter was used to break open the vault. Rough diamonds are cut and polished at Bhavesh’s factory so he keeps both rough and polished diamond in his safe vault. We can’t say anything on this right now. Our investigations are on.”
