Vidya Balan who was last seen as a Punjabi housewife in Ghanchakkar is now all set to play a detective in Bobby Jasoos. Produced by Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha under their banner Born Free Entertainment, the film marks the arrival of India’s first lady detective. It will be directed by debutant Samar Shaikh who was an assistant director on various Yash Raj Film projects.
“I am so happy that we drew Vidya in so quickly. What excited her was the milieu and the setting of the film and the world that this character belongs to. When you mention a detective film, there is a preconceived notion, but Bobby Jasoos is not the usual detective film. In India, women-centric films are always dark and gritty. But this film has agility, effervescence and colour and this combination will reflect in Vidya’s performance and look. The human story of this character will come as a surprise,” says Dia adding that the story of Bobby Jasoos was inspired by an article of a real life lady detective that Shaikh and his wife Sanyuktha Chawla Shaikh had read.
With the other cast in place too, the makers are just waiting for the right time to make the announcement. The film will be shot entirely in Hyderabad in a star-to-finish schedule starting mid-November to mid-January. “There’s a lot of prep involved for Vidya, and she’s super excited,” said Mirza adding that her production has two more scripts, One which her partner Sahil has written and will direct.
