After the delay in registering the offence, the investigation officer in the case of the alleged kidnapping of an 18-year-old girl at Ahmednagar and dumping her at a brothel in Shirpur, Dhule, has been transferred. Even after a week, the four suspects identified by the police are at large.
Ahmednagar additional superintendent of police Jyotipriya Singh, who was heading the investigation, told The Indian Express that she has been transferred on promotion. “I am not investigating the case now,” she said. She was reportedly transferred to Kolhapur as her tenure at Ahmednagar was completed. Officials said this would further delay the case.
District superintendent (SP) of police R D Shinde said, “We would appoint a new investigation officer. There is progress in investigation.”
Meanwhile, the Ahmednagar police had gone to Shirpur on Friday along with the victim, her fiance and his cousin for investigation. The brothel where the girl was allegedly dumped and beaten up was found locked. Police teams then broke the locks and conducted searches.
The cops reportedly recovered the stick with which the brothel keeper identified as Pooja beat the girl. Cops also recovered material like make up items and condoms.
Ahmednagar police had identified the four suspects as Prakash Karankal, Gopal Yadav, the owner of the place where the brothel operated, Altaf Abdul Khatik and Pooja Amit Wankhede, allegedly the brothel keeper. Police recovered identity documents of Pooja, Gopal and Altaf from the brothel.
More than a week after the offence was registered at Tofkhana police station, police have arrested none of the four suspects.
Police had questioned one Shantilal alias Sanjay Dhangar, suspected to be the driver of the car in which the girl was kidnapped. Dhangar narrated a different story than what the victim mentioned in her complaint. The girl had stated she was abducted from a spot near Big Bazaar in Ahmednagar on January 3. But Dhangar said the girl sat in the car on her own came at a spot located about 5 kms from Big Bazaar. Meanwhile, medical report confirmed that the girl is pregnant.
