SummaryThe last time the DGCA meet top airline executives was after the US FAA downgraded the country's air safety ranking.

Officials of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will soon meet chief executives from commercial airlines, a senior official with the country's aviation regulator told FE on Tuesday.

The meeting, which will take place on Friday, could discuss the frequency of medical checks and other tests carried out on cockpit crew, the official said.

ďAmong the other things, DGCA is likely to discuss strategies with airlines which could lead to an improvement in their efficiency,Ē the official added.

Top officials from the five scheduled airlines are expected to attend the meeting though FE couldn't independently verify whether they will attend the meeting in person or send in their representatives.

The last time the DGCA meet top airline executives was after the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) downgraded the country's air safety ranking to category II from category I during February.

FAA had carried out the downgraded citing inadequate oversight by local regulators which eventually led to barring Indian carriers from increasing service to American cities.

DGCA had then sought suggestions and inputs from the airlines to aid them to reverse the downgrade.
