A day after he lamented the “duplicity of world’s largest democracy” after being stopped from meeting Hurriyat chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the Delhi Police Monday allowed National Conference Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri to meet him.

Ratanpuri said Geelani told him that “after the failure of peaceful means, armed struggle is a right path to be followed”. He is the first person to meet Geelani since he was put under house arrest at his residence in New Delhi after Afzal Guru was hanged.

“Received (a) message from Delhi Police Commissioner just now. (Says) you can go and meet him (Geelani). Will be with Geelani Sahib in an hour, Insha’Allah,” Rattanpuri posted on Facebook.

Ratanpuri posted several updates about his meeting. “Geelani Sb was lying on bed with pain on the left side of abdomen. Ortho-collar around neck, he got up and said so you got permission,” he posted.

He told him he had come in his personal capacity. “I suggested a fund to help the destitute and ensure best legal aid for undertrials so nobody suffers like Guru did,” he wrote.

Rattanpuri said he suggested that Kashmiris in mainstream politics and IAS and IPS officers may help in lessening the miseries of people. He said that Geelani, however, was not impressed. “He quoted instances of human rights violation in Kunan Poshpora, Jagarpora and Mattan and said while he condemns acts of terrorism, he believes that after the failure of peaceful means, accepting defeat is not the option but armed struggle is a right path to be followed.”
