Deadline for college applications extended to June 19

Kolkata:With CBSE students yet to get their marksheets, the state government has decided to extend the date of admission in colleges till June 19. Classes for the first year are scheduled to start from the second week of July. CBSE officials said that due to a technical fault, they could not distribute mark sheets on the day the results were declared. The students will receive the mark sheets soon, they added. Sipra Biswas, who wants to study political science in St Xavier’s College, said, “If I don’t receive the mark sheet by June 18, getting admission will be difficult.”
18-hour power cut at Burdwan hospital
Kolkata:An 18-hour power cut at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital provoked complaints from patients and their relatives on Sunday. There was no provision for generator either, patients’ relatives complained to the medical superintendent. Power went off at 8 pm yesterday and was restored around 3 pm today. Hospital authorities said it was a technical fault.
