work could not be started due to problems related to removal of encroachments and land acquisition.

“The construction of these roads are necessary to decongest Delhi as the present road length cannot take the increased traffic load in the city,’’ a DDA official said.

The land agency said work had begun on UER-I and III as well. “We have started work on stretches along UER-I and -III, where there is no encroachment,’’ the official said.

The first UER will connect Wazirabad bypass to NH-I, NH-10 and NH-8 while UER-III will help provide connectivity from Wazirabad bypass to NH-I and NH-10. The DDA hopes to complete work of these three roads by 2015.

“These roads will not only improve connectivity but will also take the traffic load off Delhi’s arterial roads. The UERs will serve as direct links from Mahipalpur to areas such as Rohini, Rohtak Road and Narela. Once these roads are constructed, motorists travelling from Gurgaon or Dwarka will be able to go directly towards Rohini,” the official said.
