Day later, traffic cop changes statement
Taking a step back Says car driver merely misbehaved with him, there was no assault
Traffic police inspector Kanaiyalal Shinde, who had alleged assault by a car driver earlier, on Wednesday changed his statement, saying the driver had merely misbehaved with him. The Bangur Nagar police have now booked the driver, script writer Manoj Shukla, under the Bombay Police Act for misbehaviour in a public place.
Shinde had on Tuesday threatened to quit claiming that he was admonished by his seniors for taking action against Shukla. Shinde said Shukla had abused and assaulted him when he stopped his car because of tinted window glasses.
A day after a traffic police officer threatened to quit when he was admonished by his seniors for taking action against scriptwriter Manoj Shukla, who the sub-inspector claimed had abused and assaulted him when stopped for tinted car windows in Malad West, the Bangur Nagar police on Wednesday booked Shukla under Section 110 of the Bombay Police Act for misbehaviour in a public place.
DCP (Traffic) M Dahikar was asked to conduct an inquiry into the matter, and take serious action if Shinde’s allegation of assault was proved to be true.
Dahikar said when Shinde was called for his statement on Wednesday, he told them he was not assaulted by Shukla. “He just said that the driver had misbehaved with him,” said Dahikar.
Shukla was fined for tinted glasses and driving without a licence.
“We cannot do anything if Shinde is saying he was not assaulted,” said Ravindra Patil,
