New Delhi: CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat, opposing the ban on the Maoists, said on Monday that his party’s line was to fight them “politically and administratively.” However, such a battle, it seems, is not possible with Right-wing extremists.

While he talked about combating the extreme Left “politically,” he conveniently forgot the numerous occasions on which his party had demanded ban and action against organisations such as the Bajrang Dal and VHP.

Speaking hours after the Centre ordered the inclusion of CPI(Maoists) in the list of terrorist organisations, Karat said that banning such groups “doesn’t serve the purpose as they can change their name and continue functioning.”

But the CPM has consistently called for proscribing outfits such as the Sri Ram Sene and demanded stern action against Bajrang Dal and the VHP under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act — exactly the treatment the Centre gave to the Maoists.

Here is a look at some of the statements made by the CPM:

Joint appeal by the Left parties on March 24 in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections: In the context of the attack on minorities in Orissa, Karnataka, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, the appeal said: “The

BJP-run state governments protected and covered up such acts of violence by the various Hindutva outfits. The least that the UPA government could have done was to ban the Bajrang Dal, which was involved in the barbarous violence in Kandhamal and Mangalore, but firm action was not taken.”

CPM Politburo on January 27, 2009, after the Mangalore pub attack: “After the brazen and criminal attack on young women by the Shri Ram Sene in Mangalore, the BJP state government has not acted firmly in taking action against this Hindu extremist outfit... The Politburo demands that all the leaders of the Sene be arrested and immediate steps taken to proscribe the organisation’s activities.”

Sitaram Yechury at the National Integration Council meeting on October 31, 2008: “Police investigations in the past few years have noted the involvement of Bajrang Dal or other RSS organisations in various bomb blasts across the country... Internal security of our country can be strengthened only when all such cases are also probed impartially and with the same degree of intensity. Given this, action against the Bajrang Dal under the Unlawful Activities Act must be initiated.”

Central Committee statement on October 14, 2008: “The Bajrang Dal has...

Karat may be the best thing that happened to Communists-a failed ideology all over the world including China.,which was smart enough to embrace free market.Karat will keep making all sort of noises and will end up in the dustbin of history.I wonder what Brinda saw in this numskull.

Mr Karat is trying to be hero by making "political blunder"one after another.CPM was right by opposoing Naxalin the past.Mr Karat including other leaders are not sure what is right even in party's internal leadership issue in Kerala . This is the serious weakness ofthe present leadership in decision making process. .

After read this article i was surprised Mr.karat want to make peace in Inadia or distoy the pease.I think he wants to ban R.S.S and baj rangadal. He may not knowing Rss ane Bagranga Dal are patriotic organizations. Our central goverment has got so many chances which had been artificially mabe by revals of RSS as well as bajragadal to ban them. But after the investigations Central government got conclusion of it no need to ban them.

Maoists, bhindrawala, vhp, bajrang dal, al-qaida should be given GPL. The entire criminal gang should be deported to Somalia with Pradeep.

Naxals and Maoists, needless to say that they are criminals and their means are terrorist which serve none.It was a right decision to ban Maoists.Mr Karat and his party wanted to ban VHP and Bajrang dal which are "Hindu" organisations in their roots but needless to say that they are patriotic organisations. The means of these organisations may not always be right but their objective is never anti national. By taking sides with the "Maoists" Mr Karat hence proves that on whose side he is. Fairly enough we all now know .....whichever side he is....he is not on INDIAs side.

Shame on Karat. He has shown his colours not for the first time though. Maoists get funds from China for anti-national activities and tie up with LeT and the Christian missionaires for their nefarious activities. All this slush fund trail must be probed in full public view and for the good of this country the entire Left be banned and their doublespeak let out in public domain. Ban all fored conversions to restore the sanity of the nation and to give peace and tranquility a chance. This is the first bold step taken by a congress led Govt. in recent times.

Left as usual back in escapism. It can not face Naxals directly and it can not appreciate support of others in tackling this meanace. As long any ideology remains non-voilent, no one bothers as to what they are doing. But if Naxals say that they don't recognise Indian constitution and government then definitely they are no saner than militants. If this movement is nuisance to society then it should curbed with strong hands. No question of Intellectuals trying to guard them under various obscure bodies. If human rights or any other rights wants to protect them, then they must be dispatched to the country which wants to house them. Ultimately law and order should prevail to make life simple for the people on the street.
