With cruise holidays becoming an important market for domestic tour operators and the hot favourite amongst most Indian travellers, Coxs & Kings is now offering the discerning Indian a six-star cruise holiday with Silversea Cruises.

A Coxs & Kings official told FE that interest has been generated and they have so far got about 170 plus inquiries mostly for the summer cruises of 2004.

Targeted at a niche market that is not unwilling to spend for utmost comfort and luxury, Coxs & Kings is confident that this is slowly creating an interest amongst certain travellers who prefer to travel in utmost luxury. The official said that this kind of luxury holiday is one of the most recent as it is a six-star cruise and, though a tad on the expensive side, it is an option that the upper middle class is now looking at. Though refusing to divulge on names, the official said that some well known celebrities have show an interest in the cruises and booking should begin sometime in January-February 2004 for the forthcoming summer cruises.

“We are looking to achieve 50 or more cabin bookings from the 170 plus enquires by the beginning of next year,” the official added.

Talking about the food, he said that Silversea Cruises was looking at the possibility of adding something more appealing to the typical Indian palate in the near future to their already extensive menus on board its four cruise liners.

Chui Mun Yew Daniel, managing director, Silverseas Cruises-Asia regional office, said that as India was an emerging market in the leisure segment, the company was pleased to be present to meet the growing requirement for different kinds of cruising to the discerning Indian traveller.

A typical Far East package of 3-4 nights would cost about $1,000-2,000 per person (inclusive of all taxes) which would translate to about $300-350 a night.
