A couple was arrested on Monday on the charge of assaulting a police officer when he tried to settle an argument after a minor accident. The incident was reported from Northwest Delhi’s Rani Bagh area. The accused, identified as Deepak Kumar and Preeti Verma, were reportedly under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Deepak works as an assistant Librarian in MCD, Preeti is a homemaker.

The PCR received a call about an accident at Indian Oil Petrol Pump near Agarwal City Mall. When head constable Sahan Singh reached the spot, he found two persons engaged in a heated argument over a minor accident between a motorcycle and a car. As Singh intervened and tried to pacify them, the driver of the car became aggressive and spoke to the constable rudely, police said.

The woman in the car also came out and started abusing the constable. “The woman even threatened to tear her clothes in order to implicate the constable in a false case. She held the constable’s collar and threatened to level molestation charges against him,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, Northwest, P Karunakaran said.
