Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Saturday inaugurated Outreach OPD of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Badsha village in Haryana's Jhajjar district and announced to set up National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Cardio Care Centre at the facility.

“Outreach OPD at Badsha is the first step towards what is going to be a state-of-the-art health facility with tremendous impact on healthcare services,” Azad said, adding that the OPD will provide generic medicines free of cost to all patients for a month.

It is the first time in the history of AIIMS where the entire OPD operations will be computerised, the Health Minister said, adding that the centre has a capacity to handle approximately 1,000 patients per day.

Azad said AIIMS-2 has plans to establish several super-speciality and world- class research facilities at Badsha. “The NCI, proposed to be set up here at an estimated budget of Rs 2,100 crore, will have 600 beds and will be the biggest cancer institute in the country,” he said.

AIIMS-2, to come up in Badsha, about 17 kms from Gurgaon on the Gurgaon-Badli road, is being set up over an area of 300 acre. Azad said it will be developed as a world class international level institution and expression of interest has already been invited for drafting its master plan through international bidding.

On the occasion, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced that Badhsa would be connected through four-lane road to New Delhi. He also announced that Gurgaon-Badli road, on which AIIMS-2 is situated, would be four-laned with an investment of about Rs 250 crore.
