Two days after a journalist-turned-RTI activist was murdered, the police have traced his killers to be hired hands employed by the family of a councillor. The activist had complained against the councillor, prompting raids by the Lokayukta police.
The police said the councillor, Gowramma, and her husband Govindraju carried out the murder of Lingaraju, editor of now defunct tabloid, Mahaprachanda, through hired goons. Eight persons have been arrested for the offence, including the councillor, the police said.
Police Commissioner Jyothi Prakash Mirji said Lingaraju was killed because he had filed a complaint in the Lokayukta court against Govindraju, who was playing the role of de facto councillor for Azadnagar region.
