Corpn refuses to pay for layout plan
The councillors said funds for the layout plan should come from the Delhi government.
School of Planning and Architecture has been roped in to help the civic agency’s town planners finalise the layout plan. The institute agreed to offer its services at the rate of Rs 1 lakh per acre.
“If we release funds for one colony, we will be forced to do it for others. This means, we will be saddled with a burden of Rs 200 crore. We cannot afford that. The Delhi government should pay the institute if it does not want to delay the process of finalising the layout plan,” Rajesh Gehlot, the corporation’s standing committee chairman, said.
School of Planning and Architecture, Jamia Millia Islamia and IP University have been selected to help the city’s three municipal corporations after it was decided at a meeting at Lieutenant-Governor Tajendra Khanna’s office on September 4 that professional experts should be engaged to draw the layout plans before approval.
Subsequently, a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on September 26 decided that “expenses for engaging such agencies will be borne by Delhi government”, an official said.
