Buoyed by a firm global trend and strong domestic demand, copper prices rose by Rs 4.15 to Rs 437.10 per kg in futures trade today on increased buying by speculators.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February month rose by Rs 4.15, or 0.96 per cent to Rs 437.10 per kg in business turnover of 22412 lots. Similarly, the metal for delivery in April contract moved up by Rs 4, or 0.91 per cent to Rs 441.35 per kg in 994 lots.

Market analysts said besides firm global trend, strong domestic demand in the spot market mainly pushed up copper prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months gained 0.9 per cent to 7,837 dollar a metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
