3 students held for kidnap attempt

Jalandhar: Three African students, who are studying at a private university in Jalandhar, were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly attempting to kidnap a young woman from Professor Colony near Ramamandi. The woman, who works with a private organisation, told the police that while she was returning home, four African students surrounded her, and one of them held her arm and asked her to sit in a gypsy. But the woman raised an alarm, following which people gathered and the accused were held.

CPS orders sealing of gas agency in Sirsa

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Parliamentary Secretary Anita Yadav on Wednesday ordered the sealing of Karan Gas Agency of Kalanwali in Sirsa. Yadav was redressing the grievances of people at a meeting of District Public Relations and Grievances Redressal Committee in Sirsa. She directed officers of Food and Supplies Department to maintain a complaint register for consumers to report their grievances.

Haryana DGP promotes 5 cops

Chandigarh: Haryana Director General of Police S N Vashisht has promoted all five police officers, who killed the Fauji Dhaba owner murder accused. A team of Haryana police officers had shot dead one of the most-wanted criminals, Vikas, a resident of Hapur, in December, 2011 and arrested two of his accomplices, Deepak and Paramjit. Vikas had a reward of Rs 50,000 on his arrest. On the recommendation made by Rohtak SP Vivek Sharma, the DGP promoted all the five officers, who were part of the team that killed Vikas.

Ahluwalia is media advisor to Virbhadra

Shimla: Subash Ahluwalia, retired IAS officer, was appointed as Advisor (media) to Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. Ahluwalia, who was Singh's principal private secretary during his earlier term, has been working closely with him handling media affairs.
