Constable’s carbine recovered

After a tense few days, the lost carbine (official weapon) of a UT Police constable was recovered by the police on Wednesday from a 24-year old, Naresh, a Class IV employee. Reportedly, the accused had first beaten the constable and then snatched his carbine. The police is now on a lookout for the other two accused who are presently absconding.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) East, Vijay Kumar said, “The constable had been saying that someone had beaten him, which was proved in the medical examination. But he was not able to confirm what really happened, since he had been in an inebriated state. With the help of the persons who were around at that time and the beat staff, Naresh was suspected. He was arrested and during questioning, he revealed a hideout where the carbine had been hidden”.

According to the police sources, constable Shalinder Singh was in an inebriated state and Naresh, with two of his friends, entered into a scuffle with him. The three beat the constable and then snatched his carbine and fled from the spot. The Station House Officer of the Industrial Area Police Station on Wednesday arrested the accused and booked him on charges of robbery, voluntarily causing hurt (392 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code) and under the Arms Act.
