Congress MP Mahabal Mishra, family summoned in rape case
Additional Sessions Judge Virender Bhat, who is heading the special fast-track court for sexual offences against women at Dwarka, on Monday issued a notice to Mishra, his wife Urmila, daughter Kiran and son Hira to appear before it on February 8.
The girl, who was 16 years old at the time, and her father had alleged that she was confined at Mishra’s office and his brother’s house after being kidnapped. They alleged that the Mishra family told the girl to marry the prime accused, Pradeep Sehrawat, who faces the rape charge.
The trial court had initially declined to summon Mishra and others citing lack of evidence, but a High Court bench had held that the girl’s version was “prima facie enough to show their involvement”. Noting that there were specific allegations against Mishra and his family, the High Court asked the trial court to “consider provisions” under which they “can be summoned”.
